This site WAS going to be an online portfolio or resume, but now it is mostly a virtual display case for a few things I want to remember. However, if you get curious you can view my resume by clicking on the link to the left. One more thing - check out my vintage shop on Etsy if you like! It's always a delightful work in progress. :)
How refreshing.
Every time I hear Justin Bieber sing on the radio, I think I’m listening to a girl. He kind of looks like a girl, too. That’s why the blog “Lesbians Who Look Like Justin Bieber” makes me chuckle.

Stop laughing. I’m really doing it. I’m gonna try out for American Idol this week in Nashville. Although I’d love to perform so phenomenally that they sweep me off my feet and carry me away to Hollywood on the next available flight, my primary goals are a) to have fun, b) to learn something new, and c) to avoid making a fool of myself. I’m pretty confident in my ability to achieve both a and b, and I really hope I can make it through the audition process without failing to achieve c.
Wish me luck!
P.S. - I think I already know what I want to sing, but I’m open to suggestions!

What was the best part of contra dancing?
- Old men twirling in flowing, glittery skirts.
- “Magic cookies,” which is how I misheard “macaroons.”
- Waltzing, butnotreallywaltzing, while talking about fruit fly experiments.
- A women talking to be about her quantum class when she was at Harvard….
HOLY CRAP I LOVE CONTRA DANCING!!!
Contra dance is kind of like a cross between square dancing and line dancing. A caller tells the dancers which steps to make in time to the music, which is usually bluegrass/country or Scotch/Irish folk music. Most contra dances have a brief lesson before the actual dancing, and it’s not hard to learn (besides, have the fun is messing up and becoming entangled). Also, ladies are encouraged to wear comfortable shoes - as in, FLATS, not HEELS! Egads!
I also love the feeling of community at the dances I used to attend. You found all ages of people there, from children to octogenarians, and they all danced and had fun together without exhibiting any of the ageism that has crept into most of our society and social events.
I want this on a t-shirt.

Don’t think about all those things you fear. Just be glad to be here.
I’m standing here waiting, for you to come
in the sky some kind of strange sky phenomenon
feels strange to have you as a friend
but I’d rather be your friend
than to never see you again
I’d rather be your friend
you stare at the sky, colors reflecting in your eye
could it be, what they call the northern lights
but here and at this time of year
it’s like someone spilled the beer all over the atmosphere
it’s like someone spilled the beer
and I called out your name
like the name of a coming hurricane
I called out your name
like you call out when you’re in hurting pain
I called out your name
but you’re a part in a heavenly silver rain
you and I are not the same
we are divided by the smoke of an aeroplane
of an aeroplane
a flock of birds, in the sky
flying south they know this place will die
and I wish they could take me with them
but I would not be accepted
cause I can’t dance the funky chicken
I can’t dance the funky chicken
I’m standing here waiting, for you to come
in the sky some kind of strange sky phenomenon
This song is stuck in my head.
“Gotta Have You”
Gray, quiet and tired and mean
Picking at a worried seam
Itry to make you mad at me over the phone.
Red eyes and fire and signs
I’m taken by a nursery rhyme
I want to make a ray of sunshine and never leave home
No amount of coffee, no amount of crying
No amount of whiskey, no amount of wine
No, nothing else will do
I’ve gotta have you, I’ve gotta have you.
The road gets cold, there’s no spring in the middle this year
I’m the new chicken clucking open hearts and ears
Oh, such a prima donna, sorry for myself
But green, it is also summer
And I won’t be warm till I’m lying in your arms
I see it all through a telescope: guitar, suitcase, and a warm coat
Lying in the back of the blue boat, humming a tune…

This my cover of “You Could Be Happy” by Snow Patrol. All my usual disclaimers (little to no experience recording/producing, made with amateur equipment in my bedroom, ambient noise from my cats) apply.
I just found this. Must investigate…
